Former Chelsea left-back attracting interest from Birmingham City

According to the Birmingham Mail, Ashley Cole has attracted the attention of Championship side Birmingham. The 36-year-old is currently with MLS side LA Galaxy.

Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that he is interested in the left-back. Harry Redknapp said this about the player ” Ashley is still in great nick.” He continued ” He was possibly the best left back in the world when he was with Chelsea. I know Ashley he is a great lad and he would have no problem playing at this level.”

Cole started his career with Arsenal. He played 156 times for the Gunners over a seven year period. He also endured a loan spell with Crystal Palace while he was with Arsenal. Cole made a controversial move to Chelsea in 2006 for £5 million plus William Gallas. He played over 220 times for the Blues, and he was part of the Chelsea side which won the Champions League in 2012.

After spending eight years with Chelsea, he moved on to Italian side Roma. However, he only played eleven times for Roma. In January 2016 Cole moved to MLS side LA Galaxy. The 36-year-old has played 107 times for England. He missed a penalty against Italy in the quarter finals of Euro 2012.

Birmingham have signed four players so far this summer. Craig Gardner and Marc Roberts were signed from West Brom and Barnsley while David Stockdale and Cheikh N’Doye were signed on a free transfer. The upcoming season will be an interesting one for Birmingham. They narrowly avoided relegation last season but can they produce something special this year?
