Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi could join Premier League side Liverpool on loan this summer, according to The Mirror.
Amavi, 23, has been linked with a move away from Villa Park all summer and his club recently agreed a £8.5 million fee with Spanish side Sevilla. The defender agreed personal terms on a five-year deal but failed his medical, meaning that the transfer is now off.
The failed medical is understood to be because Sevilla could not rule out a reoccurrence of Amavi’s anterior cruciate ligament injury. The left-back first suffered the injury back in November 2015, keeping him out for several months.
Despite his move to Sevilla being called off, it still looks very likely that Amavi will leave Aston Villa this summer. He is no longer guaranteed a starting place after Steve Bruce moved to bring in Neil Taylor back in January.
Premier League side Liverpool are the latest club to show an interest in the defender, as they up their search for a left-back. Liverpool have been linked with Hull City defender Andy Robertson all summer but are still yet to agree a deal with the Championship side.
For the moment, it looks as though they have turned their attention towards Amavi, instead. It is believed that the France Under-21 international would cost around £8.5 million, but Liverpool would want to take him on loan first.
Jurgen Klopp wants to make sure that there will be no more problems with Amavi’s knee before deciding to spend big on the player.
