Freddie Woodman could be on his way to Bury according to The Bury Times. The 20-year-old was on loan at Kilmarnock last season who were managed by current Bury boss Lee Clark.
Woodman hasn’t yet made a first-team appearance for The Magpies. He has been on loan to Hartlepool, Crawley and Kilmarnock. Woodman was praised for his performances last season for the Scottish side. He played fifteen games for Killie, and he kept five clean sheets. Woodman was also in the England Under 20 squad which won the Under 20 World Cup in South Korea. He received the Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper in the tournament.
It looks like Woodman will go out on loan again. After impressing in Scotland, Newcastle gaffer Rafa Benitez will be keen to loan out the keeper again to see if he’s ready for first-team football. While the League One side are interested Woodman may go out on loan to a Championship side.
The Shakers are looking for a keeper to challenge Joe Murphy. Bury have had ex-York keeper Kyle Letheren on trial, but it’s being reported that he will not be offered a deal. Bury gaffer Lee Clark said this ” At this moment in time, Joe hasn’t got a challenge. I have a target in mind (Freddie Woodman) which I am working hard on.”
He added, ” I am going to have to be patient and brave because it might go down to the last couple of days before the season starts unless something else appears.”
Bury have been busy so far in the window. Thirteen players have signed for the club while twenty players have left the club. The Shakers will be looking to improve on last year’s League One performance where they narrowly avoided relegation.
