Celtic boss Rodgers weighs up move for QPR defender

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is thought to be considering a move for Queens Park Rangers centre-back Steven Caulker according to the Daily Record.

The 25-year-old Feltham born defender has failed to really kick on in his career following a bright start and Celtic boss Rodgers could be set to provide the player with a new beginning.

It has been reported that Rodgers is considering submitting a transfer offer for the defender and the pair could be reunited at Celtic Park after previously working together at English Premier League club Swansea City during the 2011/2012 campaign.

Caulker started his career with North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur but the player made just 29 appearances for Spurs, scoring two goals while the defender was loaned out to Yeovil Town, Bristol City and Swansea City.

In summer 2013, then English Premier League new boys Cardiff City signed Caulker for a club record £8 million transfer fee however the player was unable to help steer the South Wales outfit to safety in their debut season in the top flight.

Caulker signed for current club QPR in summer 2014 and the player has gone on to make 50 appearances in blue and white, scoring three times for the club.

The player has spent time on loan at both Southampton and Liverpool in recent seasons and the once-capped England star’s hopes of a return to the international scene could be bolstered by a move away from Loftus Road.
