Fulham hit for eight by EPL champions in pre-season friendly

Two Chelsea XIs made up of a number of multi-national stars made easy work of Fulham in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly match of the English Premier League champions’ Cobham training ground on Saturday afternoon.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side lost 8-2 as The Blues ran riot in Surrey with just an own goal and a penalty kick to show for their efforts.

While the result comes as no surprise, the manner of the way in which some of the goals were conceded will have been hugely disappointing for Fulham boss Jokanovic to see.

Chelsea were 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes of the match with Brazilian midfielder Willian netting both goals before a Cesar Azpilicueta own goal reduced the arrears for Fulham in fortunate circumstances. That goal did little to help The Whites’ cause with Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi then scoring twice before Willian completed his hat-trick to give Chelsea a 5-1 half time advantage,

The second half saw Stefan Johansen bag from the penalty spot for Fulham before Chelsea outcast Loic Remy’s goal made it 6-2. It got no better for The Whites as the match moved towards it’s conclusion and late goals from Azpilicueta and Remy rounded off an 8-2 victory for the hosts.

Fulham are back in action on Thursday evening when they face West Ham United in Austria.
