The Background

A season of stability was welcomed after a slow start for Wanderers. It took them until the 6th of October to manage their first victory, a 2-1 win vs Birmingham City. Goals were an issue even with the likes of Beckford and Jutkiewicz who could each only manage seven to their name. Whilst the beginning of the season was a disaster, Dougie Freedman can take heed from their strong finish. Their only loss in their last 10 games was to Leicester City, who clinched the title at The Reebok with a 1-0 win courtesy of Lloyd Dyer. The 2013/14 season was one of solidarity and building a squad towards the end of the season, ready for the next campaign which could well be full of success. The Transfers

Bolton were savvy and got their business done early. Signing French defender Dorian Dervite from Charlton adds strength at the back, whilst Liam Feeney has also signed offering pace and versatility down the wings from Millwall. Central midfielder Liam Trotter has also signed from Millwall now on a permanent deal after his loan spell. These are some intelligent signings ready for the season to begin, in key areas which needed strengthening after last year’s dodgy campaign.

The Star Man

Tim Ream made 44 appearances for Bolton last season and he also earned their Player of the Season award. The colossal centre-back is strong, fast and has good aerial ability. The American now is ready for another season with Wanderers and will no doubt be at the helm for any potential successes at The Reebok.

The Gaffer

After leaving a highly successful Crystal Palace team, Dougie Freedman has struggled to set things alight at Bolton. Freedman’s age and tactical awareness have counted for him so far however and you can’t help but think he’s guaranteed at least one more season in charge. The 40 year-old lead Wanderers to a 7th place finish in his first managerial term but his second spell was not so successful. His added experience and determination to succeed should surely result in a more enjoyable year for the Lancashire club. freedman
