Huddersfield Town

League Winners: 66/1

Promotion: 20/1

Relegation: 3/1

The Background

17th place was not the most comfortable finish for Town and with them only 9 points above the drop, it’s unlikely they will want a repeat of last season. Huddersfield originally started the season poorly winning 3/12 games but, as the season grew, Town began to perform and picked up some valuable points. With 14 wins, 11 draws and 21 losses, Hudds will be keen to change their record for the upcoming season as they target a more positive year. The arrival of Nahki Wells in January from local rivals Bradford was a clear catalyst in securing safety and his form will be crucial for the upcoming season alongside James Vaughan.

The Transfers

Joe Murphy joins up with Huddersfield keen to take that number one goalkeeping spot at the club whereas other business bringing players in to the club saw Lee Peltier join from Leeds United. Outs included Keith Southern who has left for League 1 Fleetwood Town and Callum Woods who has departed for Preston North End. Another notable departure is Peter Clarke, the club’s former captain. Clarke made 192 appearances for Huddersfield at the back and scored nine goals from centre back in his time at the club.

The Star Man

Nahki Wells will be a key part of Town’s season. The young Bermudian joined in January and managed to contribute 7 goals but a much higher total will be expected for the upcoming season, especially alongside James Vaughan. Vaughan started last season brightly but after injury problems limited his performances he did not get much chance to partner Huddersfield’s record signing Wells. With Wells on top form his capabilities are known from his Bradford City days and in the Championship alongside some ex-Premier League giants, he will be ready to prove himself.

Wells

The Gaffer

Mark Robins has managed 4 clubs, mainly in Yorkshire despite having a relatively successful stint with Coventry. Robins had previously managed Rotherham and Barnsley and after 67 games in charge of Huddersfield he has some valuable experience at the club. With a stronger squad on his side for the upcoming season, he will be hoping for a mid-table finish with an eye for around 12th place and above surely.

The Player- Nahki Wells

Thoughts on last season?

NW: I enjoyed last season massively was a tough step up but a enjoying one. I look at the experience I gained as vital for me to hopefully hit the ground running.

Any Personal hopes for this season?

NW: I have high hopes on my self as always and hope to form a key partnership with James Vaughan and challenge the golden boot spot. It will be tough with the quality the league has but I feel I’m totally capable of getting to the 20 mark.

Where do you think you will finish this season?

NW: I think it will be a very tough league this year and will be much tougher then last season. I just hope we can get off to a good start and anything is possible. I think as players we will go out with no pressure and try to finish as high as possible playing attractive football.

The Verdict? 20th.
