Season Preview: The Championship

Fulham Fulham

The Odds – (Via-William Hill)

League Winners: 10/1

Promotion: 11/4

Relegation: 25/1

The Background

A poor season for Fulham which saw relegation, managerial changes and turmoil for the club. The Cottagers looked doomed fom the beginning and, although the appointment of Felix Magath saw an upturn in performances, it was a case of too little too late. Heavily reliant on a large number of players, only a handful consistently produced strong performances (such as Steve Sidwell and Ashkan Dejagah) whereas other high earners failed to impress. The capture of Konstantinos Mitroglou was meant to be a strong striking option but instead saw him barely even appear for his side after transferring over from Greece. A poor season for Fulham deservingly ended with relegation from the top-flight as the club now look towards a new era in The Championship.

The Transfers

Ross McCormack was a huge transfer and the £11 million pound signing proves Fulham are ready to compete for potential promotion to the top-flight immediately. The striker will be key in their success as goals have been incredibly hard to come by all season for the club so a new campaign with a new striker should prove interesting viewing for the fans. With a number of players out as well, it is hard to predict what will actually happen to Fulham this year.

Ross McCormack

The Star Man

Ross McCormack. His goals last season were the difference between Leeds and the relegation spots. Proving he can score from almost anywhere with the ball at his feet, McCormack’s ability to score will be a welcome one for the club who have struggled recently in front of goals and attackingly.

The Gaffer

Felix Magath is ready for a season of competition and fighting to get the Cottagers back up into the Premier League. The Ex-Bayern and Schalke manager has a wealth of experience behind him and knows what is required to create a promotion challenge. After a massive clearance of the squad, Magath has began to bring in many new players too and shows that he means business by spending £11 million on McCormack. With 3 Bundesliga titles to his name, its a possibility that he could leave this season with a Championship one as well.

Magath

The Verdict? 5th.
