Derby County to make £4m offer for Leicester City midfielder

Derby County are set to make a £4m offer to sign Leicester City’s Matty James according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old midfielder had to battle to get back to full fitness after suffering a knee ligament injury which forced him out for a serious amount of time. After recovering from that, he was sent out on loan to Barnsley for the second half of last season where he served as a replacement for Conor Hourihane who had been sold to Aston Villa. And despite the fact he was under a lot of pressure to replace one of Barnsley’s star men, he ended up performing very well in the 19 appearances he made for the Tykes.

He is now back at Leicester after that loan spell ended with his future currently being in doubt. He currently has one year left on his current deal and the Foxes are willing to hand him a new one. However James will want to get back to playing regular first team football and he may not be able to do that at Leicester side that will be battling to rise back up the Premier League table after a very poor defence of their title last year. And so a move could be on the cards as Leicester hope to get some money for the midfielder.

And Derby, who have also been linked with a move for Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone this week, are looking to sign him. They are prepared to make a bid worth £4m to try and sign James as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a promotion bid next season. Now it’s up to Leicester whether they want to cash in on the former Manchester United midfielder.
