Pitman, Portsmouth in talks with Ipswich Town striker

Portsmouth in talks with Ipswich Town striker

Portsmouth are in talks with Ipswich Town’s Brett Pitman according to a report from The Green ‘Un.

The 29-year-old striker has been at Ipswich since he signed for them in 2015 from Bournemouth, but the 2016/17 season is not one that will be on his highlight reel. He was in and out of the first team, making 23 appearances and only scoring four goals. To make matters worse, his last goal was in 2016 when he scored in the 2-1 win over Bristol City.

And with Pitman having one of the highest wages at Ipswich, their head coach Mick McCarthy is looking to get rid of him so he can use that money elsewhere. They are so keen to make sure Pitman leaves this summer that they are willing to sell him on a free transfer. And with Ipswich being so willing to sell him, Portsmouth have now entered personal talks with Pitman and will be looking to persuade him to head back down south.

While Pitman is reluctant to drop down a division into Sky Bet League One, Portsmouth may just be able to persuade him to come to the third tier. Not only would the striker get a chance to return back south and be closer to his native Jersey, but he’d also get to join one of the biggest clubs in the league as they look to get back to where they once were. But Portsmouth would have to come somewhere close to the wages he is being paid now at Ipswich as Pitman could just run the one year left on his current deal down.
