Oxford United complete signing of Wolves winger

Oxford United have signed James Henry on a free transfer following his release from Wolves as confirmed by the club website.

The 28-year-old winger initially signed for Wolves on loan from Millwall but his form was so good it was made permanent just a few months later. He would help the Black Country club promoted get promoted from Sky Bet League One but would end up losing his place in the first team, leading to his loan to Bolton where he helped them get promoted from League One.

However his form at Bolton wasn’t enough to persuade the Wolves coaches that he should be given a contract extension and was released at the end of his deal. But he has now found a new club after he penned a deal with Oxford and has now traveled to Portugal to join up with the rest of the squad for their pre-season preparations.

Following the completion of the transfer, Henry said: “It’s an exciting move for me. Oxford are a club making great progress and they were very impressive last season. The new Manager has a fantastic reputation within football and I can’t wait to meet up with the lads and join training this week.”

His new head coach Pep Clotet added: “He has played a lot of football in the Championship and has real quality. He knows this league and been successful in it before: he has been promoted from it three times and we look forward to working with him.”
