Sheffield Wednesday absolutely thrash Alfreton Town as George Boyd, who recently signed on a free from Burnley, made his Owls debut and won 5-0 at the Impact Arena.
The home side started the strongest but Sheffield Wednesday made the breakthrough in the 22nd minute as Jordan Rhodes finished coolly from inside the area. It took just two more minutes to get a second as Jordan Rhodes scored a glancing header into the corner of the goal. 2-0 is how the first half ended with Jordan Rhodes being the difference.
Wednesday made five changes in the second half as Dawson, Hunt, Reach, Hooper and Nuhiu replaced Wildsmith, Palmer, Matias, Boyd and Winnall.
It wasn’t until the 62nd minute until the Owls scored their third. The goal came courtesy of Nuhiu who finished from close range. The fourth came just four minutes later as Adam Reach scored an absolute screamer from 30 yards out which was completely and utterly unstoppable. The fifth and final goal came from Connor O’Grady with just a couple of minutes from the final whistle.
