Middlesbrough look set to complete signing of Premier League winger

Middlesbrough look set to complete the signing of Premier League winger Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool, according to The Mirror.

Middlesbrough had been in competition with newly-promoted Newcastle United but it is understood that the Magpies have struggled to agree on a deal with Liverpool.  Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants to sign Ojo to give him more options in attack but the winger now looks set to move to Middlesbrough instead.

Ojo, 20, made only two appearances for the Liverpool first-team last season due to injury, leading to speculation that he could be loaned out this season.  However, it was reported earlier this month that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wanted to hang on to Ojo for the time being.  Klopp wanted the winger to play a part in Liverpool’s pre-season training camp and play a few friendly games before making a decision on his future.

The winger impressed for England in the Under-20 World Cup last month which has led to a lot of interest in signing him on loan for the coming season.  As well as Middlesbrough and Newcastle, Burnley have also been linked with the winger.

Ojo has been loaned out to the Championship twice before, so he is a player who has experience at the level.  In spells with Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers, the winger played 28 league games and scored two goals.

After a disappointing campaign in the Premier League, Middlesbrough will be hoping that the appointment of Garry Monk can spur the club on to promotion once again this season.
