Middlesbrough are set to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo according to a report from Sky Sports.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Middlesbrough and Newcastle would rekindle their Tyne-Tees rivalry as they looked to sign Ojo. Boro need to strengthen their squad following their relegation from the Premier League while Newcastle need to get some players in as they have had a frustrating transfer window ever since they were promoted back to the top tier.
But while Newcastle thought they would win their race due to being in a higher league than Middlesbrough, it appears that the Teesside club will be getting one over on their rivals. The Magpies have struggled to come to terms on the loan deal, allowing Middlesbrough to move quickly and make sure that the 20-year-old will be playing regularly at the Riverside this season rather than St James Park.
Middlesbrough will be hoping now that they have won this battle that Ojo will end up being a great part of their squad. Ojo has been tipped for great things ever since he signed for Liverpool from the MK Dons academy though he hasn’t done enough yet to break into the Liverpool first team. This is why their head coach Jurgen Klopp was willing to let him leave on loan this season and how Middlesbrough were able to snap him up. This is the third time Ojo will be heading to the Sky Bet Championship having had spells at Wigan Athletic and Wolves before.
