Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal to sign Cambridge United’s Will Norris, according to HITC Sport sources.
The 23-year-old joined the Us, then a Conference Premier club, back in 2012 and was instantly loaned back to former employers Royston Town in the eight tier of football. Norris didn’t have an easy start to his career at Cambridge, as the keeper failed to hold down a first-team place and was loaned to Braintree Town for the 2015/16 season.
However, after being in and out of the team at Abbey Stadium, Norris became the undisputed number one choice last term as the goalkeeper recorded a successful first full season in professional football. The former non-league star recorded a colossal 54 appearances as Cambridge finished 11th in League Two. Norris also performed well against higher-tier opposition, keeping a clean sheet in a 4-0 thumping over Coventry City in the FA Cup.
It is now reported that, after the arrival of former England international John Ruddy, Wolves are expected to sign Will Norris after agreeing a deal with the League Two club. The youngster may be brought in to challenge for a first-team spot against the experienced ex-Norwich City man Ruddy.
Norris has developed as a goalkeeper the hard way, learning his trade in non-league football and playing over 100 times for semi-professional clubs. The goalkeeper has also developed a reputation of a penalty expert having stopped five spot-kicks last term. Norris is now an established League Two player and will be hungry to further his performances in the Championship, if the move goes through as expected.
