Boga, Hull City make enquiry for Chelsea youngster

Hull City make enquiry for Chelsea youngster

Hull City are interested in signing Chelsea’s Jeremie Boga, according to the Mirror.

The French-born youngster moved to London with his family in 2008 and quickly became apart of the Chelsea academy the following year. Boga soon made a name for himself in the Blues’ development squads and was an important part of the U18s team that won two FA Youth Cups and the UEFA Youth League in 2015.

After being named on the first-team bench for the final game of the 2014/15 season in a 3-1 win over Sunderland,  the former France U19 international was sent on loan to his home country the following season. Boga joined Ligue 1 club Stage Rennais, and played a big role as the French club finished 5th in the top tier. The midfielder accumulated 31 appearances and bagged three goals in his successful first season as a professional.

Last term, the 20-year-old was loaned to La Liga outfit CF Grenada in a hugely disappointing campaign for the Spanish club. The Andalusia-based team finished rock-bottom of the league and won just five games all season. However, the loan spell will no doubt have proven to be a learning curve for Boga, who made 27 appearances and played against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. The midfielder also made his senior international debut this year, opting to play for Ivory Coast where he is eligible to play through his parents. Boga came on as a substitute in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea in June.

New Tigers boss Leonid Slutsky is friends with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and has stated he will utilise his close relationship with the Russian to improve his squad at Hull. The Championship club will be looking for a quick return to the Premier League and, after reportedly making an enquiry to the English champions, a loan deal for exciting youngster Boga would strengthen Slutsky’s options in midfield.
