Huddlestone, Derby and Birmingham show interest in Hull’s ex-England international

Derby and Birmingham show interest in Hull’s ex-England international

Derby County and Birmingham City are both interested in Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone, according to reports from HITC Sport.

The 30-year-old made a move to the KCOM Stadium in 2013 for a fee believed to be around £5.25 million, and has been ever-present during his time at the Tigers. Huddlestone has accumulated over 150 appearances as well as winning the 2015/16 Championship play-offs since transferring from Tottenham Hotspur. The midfielder signed a new two-year deal with his current employers last summer.

It is now reported that Championship duo Derby and Birmingham are both lining-up a move for the Hull City player. A move to the Rams would no doubt be emotional for Huddlestone, as the former England international started his professional career at Pride Park. The midfielder, born in Nottingham, made 95 appearances for Derby before moving to Spurs in 2005.

However, a move to the West Midlands may also be enticing for Huddlestone under former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp. The midfielder played perhaps the best football of his career under the current Birmingham boss during his time at White Hart Lane. Huddlestone made over 200 appearances for the North London club, playing in the League Cup final and winning England caps during his eight seasons at Spurs. A move to St Andrew’s may see Redknapp reignite that success Huddlestone found at Tottenham.

HITC Sport report the midfielder has a clause in his contract to allow him to leave his current club for £2 million after Hull’s relegation to the Championship. The Tigers will be hoping for an instant return to the Premier League and will no doubt want to keep their player who made an important 39 appearances last term.
