Birmingham City again linked with Rams defender

Birmingham City are again being linked with a move for defender Richard Keogh from Sky Bet Championship rivals Derby County according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 30-year-old Harlow born centre-back is one of Derby County’s most respected players with Keogh having twice won the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

The Republic of Ireland defender is again set to play a key role for The Rams in the coming campaign however it has been reported that Sky Bet Championship rivals Birmingham City could have different ideas and may opt to make a move for the player in the coming weeks.

Keogh started his career at Stoke City however the player failed to make an impact in The Potteries and soon moved to Bristol City where he won promotion from Sky Bet League One. The defender initially struggled to make the step up to the second tier of English football and Keogh found himself loaned out to Huddersfield Town, Carlisle United and Cheltenham Town.

A permanent move to Carlisle United followed in August 2008 and two-year spells with both The Cumbrians and Coventry City followed before Keogh joined current club Derby County five years ago. The defender’s time at Pride Park has been a huge success with Keogh making 235 appearances for The Rams, scoring eight goals and the club may need to be persuaded to let the player move to St Andrews.
