Gallagher, Birmingham City and Wolves to make loan bid for Southampton striker

Birmingham City and Wolves to make loan bid for Southampton striker

Birmingham City and Wolves are interested in signing Southampton’s Sam Gallagher on loan according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The 21-year-old striker came through the famed Southampton academy, an institution known for producing many great players over the last few years. But he has been unable to follow many of the players he worked with through the years and break into the Saints first team and has had to rely on loan spells away from the St Mary’s Stadium to get first team action.

Most recently he has been on loan at Blackburn Rovers and would be one of their better performers. He scored 11 goals in 42 appearances for the Lancashire club but that wasn’t enough to stop them from being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship. But while his former club will have to compete in Sky Bet League One, Gallagher looks like he will be joining the Championship promotion battle as two teams fight to sign him on loan.

Both Birmingham and Wolves are interested in signing Gallagher on loan as they look to boost their striking options ahead of what both teams will hope will be a successful campaign for them. While both teams have shown they are willing to spend a lot of money this summer to make sure they get the players they want, Financial Fair Play does limit the amount they can spend meaning that bargains must always be looked for. And with Gallagher likely to be available on a loan deal, he could be a great bargain to improve either club’s striking options.
