Blackburn Rovers get off to flying start in pre-season

Sky Bet League One promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers got their pre-season campaign off to a solid start with a 2-1 victory over Barrow at Holker Street.

Craig Conway and Danny Graham got the goals as Rovers started their pre-season schedule as they mean to go on with a gritty victory over The Bluebirds.

Rovers boss Mowbray followed the common opening pre-season theme by fielding a different side in each half at Holker Street and the club’s strength-in-depth was clear to see as the Lancashire outfit held their nerve to beat their plucky opponents.

It was Mowbray’s men who shaded the first half with Rovers taking a one-goal lead into the interval courtesy of a Conway strike.

The second half saw Mowbray field plenty more first team players and the half had a real pre-season feel to it until Richie Bennett levelled matters for the home side with 17 minutes remaining on the clock. The match looked set to end level at 1-1 until Rovers striker Graham proved his class late on with the decisive goal.

Blackburn Rovers were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship on the final day of last season but hopes are high that the club can secure an immediate return to the second tier of English football. Rovers start their Sky Bet League One campaign with a trip to Southend United on Saturday 5 August.
