Leeds United are leading the race to sign Cagliari defender Bartosz Salamon, according to reports coming out of Italy.
Corriere dello Sport (Via Sports Witness) have reported that Salamon’s likely destination is Leeds United, but Swiss Super League side Lugano are also interested in the Polish defender.
Interestingly, Lugano are a club that Leeds are familiar with, and the two clubs are currently working together to try and complete a deal that would see Macedonian winger Ezgjan Alioski move to Elland Road.
The Whites will be hoping that this move will not be jeopardised by their pursuit of Salamon.
The central defender’s time at the Italian Serie A side Cagliari appears to be over, after the club confirmed the signing of another defender from Italian giants Inter Milan.
However, if Leeds United do complete a deal for the Pole, it is likely that it will involve Giuseppe Bellusci going the other way, and leaving Elland Road for good.
Leeds are clearly on the lookout for a central defender. Swedish international Pontus Jansson and on loan defender Kyle Bartley formed a formidable partnership last season, but the Englishman has since returned to his parent club Swansea City.
They have been linked with a number of options, but the rumours linking them with Salamon have certainly been the most consistent, especially in the Italian press.
And it would not be a bad signing for the Whites. The central defender has made nine caps for his native Poland, showing his ability to play at the highest level.
Salamon has been at Cagliari since 2015, when he joined the club from fellow Italian side Sampdoria.
