Wolves set to beat Championship rivals to ex-England international

Former England international keeper John Ruddy is set to snub Sunderland to join divisional rivals Wolves on a free transfer in the coming days, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ruddy was released by Norwich City last month alongside the likes of Seb Bassong and Michael Turner, as Daniel Farke continues to clear out the club and cut down the wage bill, and the one-time England international has been subject to interest from multiple Championship clubs since.

Simon Grayson has been watching the 30-year-old as potentially his next signing, and The Black Cats were keen to wrap up a deal for the former Everton man, but Wolves have shown a keen interest in bringing Ruddy to Molineux over the last couple of days.

With talks reportedly held today at Molineux, Ruddy is set to become the new number 1 at Wolves by turning down the recently relegated club.

Following the awful news of Carl Ikeme’s acute leukaemia diagnosis that came yesterday, Ruddy is expected to take over as Nuno Santo’s first choice next season as Wolves eye promotion to the top flight.

The Fosun revolution is continuing to gather momentum at Wolves, with the club expected to announce the eye-raising signings of Porto duo Wily Boly and Ruben Neves in the coming days to join the likes of Roderick Miranda, another Liga Portuguesa recruit who joined earlier in the window.

Ruddy will likely be the next to join Nuno Santo’s revolution, but he almost certainly won’t be the last as Wolves continue to spend big.
