Chesterfield closely watching Sheffield Wednesday striker

Chesterfield are closely watching Sheffield Wednesday’s George Hirst as they plot a loan move for him according to a report from the Derbyshire Times.

The Spireites are pretty happy with their striker situation this summer as they look to rebuild their squad following their relegation from Sky Bet League One. They have been able to snap up both Chris O’Grady and Gozie Ugwu, both of which should be great at this level alongside the players they already have that squad. But the club are having to prepare in case they lose one of those strikers.

Reports have suggested that several teams have been looking at Kristian Dennis in recent weeks, with one of them suggesting that Burton Albion could make a move. While Chesterfield would love to keep one of their star men and will be looking to do their best to make sure he doesn’t leave, they do fear they might not be able to stop Dennis from taking up the opportunity to jump the leagues and play in a higher division.

And so the Derbyshire club have been looking at players who could come in as a replacement should they end up losing Dennis. And one player is a potential star just up the road. George Hirst, the son of Wednesday legend David, has shown a lot of promise in the last few months and has been able to pick up a number of honours with both club and country. But he needs first team action to continue his development and he might be able to do that at Chesterfield should they go through with a move.
