Brentford star to sit out Friday friendly due to expected Premier League bid

Sky Sports understands that key Brentford player Jota will not be involved in their pre-season friendly against Aldershot Town tonight. The player held talks with head coach Dean Smith and other representatives yesterday, where it became knowledge that a Premier League side are due to make a bid for the Spaniard.

It was therefore agreed by all concerned that Jota would play no part on Friday. It is understood that up to four top flight sides have expressed an interest in the talented forward. Promoted duo Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United, as well as big spending Everton and Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United have all expressed an interest in the 25-year-old.

Although he shall play no part in the Aldershot game, Brentford and Smith will continue to play for life with Jota AS a Brentford player. They are adamant that the player shall not be allowed to leave and speak to any club, unless an appropriate fee can be agreed. He is due to enter the final 12-months of his contract at Griffin Park, but the Bees are happy to let this dwindle down if no suitable offer is produced. The club recently took up the option to extend his stay at the club.

Since being signed by former manager Mark Warburton, Jota has mainly been a big success with the club. Although he has spent a fair amount away on loan back at former club Eibar, either side of this he has shown that he can be one of the top players in the Championship.
