Sheffield Wednesday fans have been reflecting on Lewis McGugan’s career at the club as he gets closer to leaving.
McGugan first signed for the Owls on loan back in 2014 and performed so well that when Dejphon Chansiri took over the club later on that season, the fans demanded that the midfielder be signed on a permanent deal. Instead he would be signed on loan again before the move was made permanent in the summer transfer window.
It appeared that it was going to be a great move as McGugan scored his first goal for the club in the first game of the season against Bristol City. Yet despite that, he would slowly fall out of favour and found himself playing more U23 games than senior by the end of the season. He was transfer listed in the summer but he couldn’t be shifted, meaning he was left without a squad number and a competitive appearance last season.
But it seems like his time at Hillsborough is finally coming to a close. He is currently training with Cardiff City and may be able to earn a deal with them, finally allowing him to get back to playing football. This has led to Wednesday fans reflecting on his time with the club. While McGugan hasn’t played much recently, the fans acknowledge that he was very talented and that it was a shame he couldn’t do much more while he was with the team.

A shame about McGugan. Had potential to be our key player but, for reasons that only the club will know, it never came off for him #swfc https://t.co/KXU7g6h1yD

But if we’re honest, while the mood is calm now, this tweet predicts what will happen if McGugan does well at Cardiff.
Can't wait for the meltdown when McGugan scores a few goals for Cardiff #SWFC
