Portsmouth to win race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper

Portsmouth are set to win the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s Christian Walton on loan according to a report from HITC Sport.

While Walton has only made a few appearances for Brighton, he is seen as a bright prospect mainly thanks to his loan spells away from the club. Most recently it was at Southend United where he did very well though his best form came at Luton Town, where he was their number one for an extended point of time. While he might have hoped this would be enough to get him to break into the Brighton first team, especially with David Stockdale leaving for Birmingham City, but the signing of Matthew Ryan ended that.

This led to a race to sign Walton on loan as he needs to play regular first team experience to continue his development as a player and it seems like it has been won by Portsmouth. Last year, Pompey got David Forde on loan from Millwall but it appears that he will not be returning to Fratton Park this summer, meaning they need to find a new number one. While some fans might be disappointed that they won’t be signing a player on a permanent deal to be their new regular goalkeeper, they will instead be getting a talented young shot stopper who will be keen to prove himself.

While at Portsmouth, not only will Walton be looking to improve himself as a player but also establish himself in the international scene more after picking up a cap from the England U21s last year.
