Yiadom, Barnsley defender subject of interest from Huddersfield Town and Swansea City

Barnsley defender subject of interest from Huddersfield Town and Swansea City

Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom is the subject of a transfer battle between Huddersfield Town and Swansea City according to a report from The Sun.

The 25-year-old defender, who can also play in midfield, joined the Tykes last summer and even though he was jumping up from Sky Bet League Two, he adjusted to the difference in class perfectly and became one of the team’s best performers. His performances would help Barnsley in one of their best seasons in the last few years as they finished 14th in the Sky Bet Championship after challenging for a place in the play-offs.

But Barnsley are seen as a selling club after losing a few of their key players over the last few months and now there is a battle to sign Yiadom. There had been interest from their Championship rivals QPR but now it seems like he will be heading to the Premier League as Huddersfield Town and Swansea City are set to duke it out. Both teams sense they can get a bargain with Yiadom only having a year left on his current deal and could be able to sign him for around £2m.

If Yiadom were to head to South Wales to sign for Swansea rather than staying with Yorkshire, he would get the chance to reunite with Alfie Mawson. The highly rated defender left the Tykes to join Swansea last summer and was able to be one of their better performers while the Swans battled against relegation from the Premier League.
