Fulham now close in on Belgian midfielder after almost signing him in January

Sky Bet Championship side Fulham are nearing the signing of Standard Liege midfielder Ibrahima Cisse according to Sky Sports. The 23-year-old Belgian is currently in London, where he is set to undergo a medical with the Craven Cottage club.

Fulham are understandably keen to add to their squad this summer in a bid to improve upon their play-off semi-final showing last season. Head coach Slavisa Jokanovic is looking to add fine details in certain departments to give them an edge this time around. Cisse, a former Belgian Under-21 international, looks likely to become another summer recruit by the Cottagers.

Cisse played 25 times for Standard last season as they finished a disappointing 9th in the Belgian Pro League. This did include appearances in the UEFA Europa League earlier in the campaign. There was a strong chance that the combative midfield player would’ve made the move to Fulham a few months’ earlier. Jokanovic tried to get the deal over the line in the January transfer window, but failed to do so. Back then the club had two bids turned down, one of which was believed to be over £2million. However a deal has now been agreed between the two clubs.

Marcelo Amado has already made the move this summer to Fulham, joining from Spanish side Lugo. Scott Parker retired after a long career in the game, so there is certainly a gap in the midfield than needs filling, although the veteran was hardly a regular last season anyway. Stefan Johansen and Kevin McDonald have made the two midfield spots their own in recent times, so Cisse certainly faces a battle on his hands to break into the team.
