Birmingham City and Fulham face competition from Crystal Palace to sign Ligue 2 defender

Birmingham City and Fulham will face competition from Crystal Palace in their battle to sign Bastia’s Alexander Djiku according to a report from the July 6th print edition of French publication L’Equipe.

The 22-year-old defender is coming off the back of a season where he played well, even if his team Bastia didn’t. Despite the efforts put in by Djiku, Bastia were relegated from Ligue 1 after finishing at the very bottom of the division. And with the defender being seen as a player that is too good to compete in Ligue 2, several teams have become interested in him.

Firstly the interest came from within the country with teams such as Caen and St Etienne and expressing a willingness to sign him before Turkish side Bursaspor and Greek giant Olympiakos also looked into signing him. However Djiku could now head across the English Channel after teams from our country started to become interested in signing him.

Both Birmingham City and Fulham are looking to challenge for promotion this season, with the Blues investing heavily to ensure that while the Cottagers just need some improvement after losing out in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs last time around. And with players costing far less in France, both teams have started to look at Djiku and could make a move for him in the next few days. However they will face stiff competition as Premier League Crystal Palace are also set to enter the race and will use their league status to move to the head of the pack.
