Fulham defender to seal Premier League move in next 24 hours

Get West London understands that Huddersfield Town will complete the signing of Fulham left back Scott Malone in the next 24 hours. Rumours began to circulate earlier this week that a possible deal was in the pipeline and he has supposedly completed a medical.

The 26-year-old defender has only been with the Craven Cottage club for one season following his move from Cardiff City. He quickly established himself as an important member of Slavisa Jokanovic’s back four, starting 36 league matches last year as they reached the Championship Play-Offs.

Given the fact that Huddersfield today have loaned out another left back in the form of Tareiq Holmes-Dennis to Sky Bet League One side Portsmouth, there is a lot to suggest that a deal to confirm Malone is imminent. The former Millwall man will therefore provide competition with Chris Lowe in the left back position at the John Smith’s Stadium. David Wagner is also looking to boost his right back options in the form of Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom too.

Losing Malone would certainly be a shame for Fulham, but not a complete disaster. They do have highly-regarded youngster Ryan Sessegnon, who signed a contract extension earlier this summer, perfectly capable of playing this position. However, he did seem to prefer playing in more of a left winger role as the season progressed last time around, plus he plays this position in the England Under-19 side too. It remains to be seen if Jokanovic is prepared to dip into the transfer market to effectively sign a replacement for Malone.
