Coventry City continue rebuild with signing of Fulham defender

Coventry City have signed Jack Grimmer from Fulham on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The Sky Blues were relegated from Sky Bet League One with a whimper with the former Premier League club never looking like they would ever avoid the drop and winning the Checkatrade Trophy barely lifted the mood at the Ricoh Arena. Now that they are a Sky Bet League Two team, they are rebuilding the squad to make sure they can get promoted as quickly as possible and the signing of Grimmer is part of that.

The 23-year-old defender had been at Fulham for five years, but struggled to break into their first team and only made 13 appearances for the club. He instead got plenty of first team action on loans out, including one at Port Vale and three at Shrewsbury Town. Grimmer has now signed a two-year with Coventry and will be part of their attempts to get promoted.

After the signing was completed, his new head coach Mark Robins said: “I think it is a coup for us to sign Jack, and I look forward to working with him.”

“He is a really good prospect and at 23 has even more development potential still.”

“This is an exciting signing, as Jack has both strong defensive and attacking elements to his game.”

“Jack is strong, powerful, quick and has a winning mentality – all of which are important qualities to have.”

Grimmer will get his first time to impress in a Coventry shirt in the friendly match against Sutton United on the 8th July.
