Former Blackburn Rovers man joins Aston Villa on pre-season trip

Former Blackburn Rovers and QPR defender Chris Samba has not given up on earning himself a deal at Villa Park according to the Express and Star.

Samba, who is a free agent following his release from Panathinaikos in the Greek Superleague, has linked up with Villa for their pre-season training camp in Portugal in the hope of earning himself a move to the Sky Bet Championship side.

The former Congo international, who was born in France, started his career at Sedan in France, where he played for the second team before making the step up to the first team.

He then moved on to Germany with Hertha Berlin, again playing for the second team for a spell before progressing up to the first team.

Samba then made the move to England, with Blackburn Rovers, which is where he made his name. He played 161 times scoring 16 goals, and even captained the side for a spell before handing in a transfer request in 2011.

The 6’4 powerhouse returned to England for a brief spell with QPR in 2013, but has struggled to gain a stable starting position at any club he’s been at since his departure from Ewood Park, and is hoping Villa can be the answer.

The 33-year-old veteran spent the end of last season training with The Villains and is hoping to prove himself during the pre-season camp in Portugal to finally earn himself a move.

With both Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards both uncertain of their future, after struggling to get game-time last campaign, we may just see Samba make a return to the English game in the claret and blue of Aston Villa.
