Leeds United man subject to interest from Championship rivals

Championship rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough are both reportedly eyeing a move for Leeds United’s 37-year-old keeper Robert Green, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Reports surfaced last week that the former England international keeper was being watched by Premier League giants Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger looks for a new backup with David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny both seemingly on their way out of the London club after finding first-team opportunities limited.

Green signed for Leeds last summer on a free transfer from divisional rivals Queens Park Rangers, who were looking to offload the experienced keeper due to a clause in his contract that would’ve given him an extension should he play another league game.

Wherever he’s been in his career, Green has almost always been first choice, playing every league game for The Whites last season, endearing himself to the Elland Road faithful with some stellar performances.

However, at 37 years of age, Green’s best years are behind him, and with new manager Thomas Christiansen keen to build a young, hungry squad for the future, Werder Bremen keeper Felix Wiedwald was brought in to give competition.

Now, with Jordan Pickford completing his £30 million transfer to Premier League Everton and Brad Guzan failing to impress at Boro, the two clubs are interested in snapping up the former Norwich City and West Ham keeper to help them bounce straight back to the top flight.

No bids have been made as of yet for the 37-year-old stopper, but it’s expected the chase will continue to hot up over the next week.
