Redknapp could be reunited with former Villa striker at St Andrews

Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that he will not rule out a move for former Aston Villa loanee Robbie Keane according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 36-year-old Dublin born striker has been without a club since leaving Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy back in November although the player is not thought to be considering hanging up his boots just yet.

Birmingham City manager Redknapp is an admirer of the Republic of Ireland record goalscorer and was thought to be keen to sign the striker earlier this summer as reported by The 72.

It is now thought that while no decision has been made on the forward’s future and no approach made, Redknapp is still open to a move and Birmingham City fans could yet see Keane in the famous blue shirt.

Keane started his career in The Midlands with Wolverhampton Wanderers before spending time at Coventry City. Moves to Inter Milan and Leeds United followed before the hotshot joined Tottenham Hotspur where he worked under Redknapp. The Irishman bagged 121 goals for Spurs in 293 appearances for the club and won the club’s Player of the Year Award on three occasions.

Since leaving White Hart Lane, Keane has spent five-and-a-half years with LA Galaxy. The striker netted well over a goal every other game for the American club while a short loan spell with Birmingham City’s bitter rivals in 2012 saw the player score three goals in seven appearances.

It is unknown just how Birmingham City fans would react to the signing of Keane however should the player be a goalscoring hit at St Andrews, he would undoubtedly win over the fans despite his former Villa connections.
