Sunderland look set to open talks with Chelsea for talented midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to Chronicle Live.
New Black Cats boss Simon Grayson is already looking at bringing Everton duo Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway to the Stadium of Light on loan deals, as well as attracting Aiden McGeady to Wearside. But according to the Newcastle Chronicle, Grayson is now looking at making Chelsea starlet Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Black Cat.
The Premier League Champions opted against a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge for the young midfielder, experimenting the youngster in a role playing off the main striker rather than his original central midfield position.
21-year-old Loftus-Cheek was only given 32 minutes of Premier League football last season and, with just four starts in cup games, the Blues may be looking to send him out on-loan to gain first-team experience.
Sunderland are monitoring the talented midfielder’s situation at Stamford Bridge, however Grayson will face fierce competition from a number of clubs – including Newcastle United and Brighton.
The Magpies tried to bring the mifielder the St James’ Park last summer to aid their chances of promotion after being relegated to the Sky Bet Championship, but Rafa Benitez’s promoted side still remain admirers.
Also following Loftus-Cheek’s progress is Chris Hughton’s Brighton. The Seagulls finally achieved promotion to the top-flight last season, finishing second after looking destined for the Championship trophy for most of the season.
Grayson may be able to provide Loftus-Cheek regular first-team football at a lower level, however the Blues may prefer their youngster goes on-loan to a side where he can gain Premier League experience.
