Middlesbrough’s Garry Monk and Sunderland’s Simon Grayson are highly interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green according to the Yorkshire Evening Post chief football writer, Phil Hay on Twitter.
Re goalkeepers: told Middlesbrough/Sunderland monitoring Rob Green's position. Interested if he becomes available after Wiedwald deal. #lufc

After Leeds United signed German goalkeeper, Felix Wiedwald, from Werder Bremen in Germany it’s left doubts amongst many as to whether or not Rob Green will keep his place as Leeds United’s number one.
Rob Green and Garry Monk had a good relationship with each other when he was at Elland Road. If Rob Green does get dropped down the ranks to Leeds United’s number two then it will give Garry Monk or Simon Grayson the perfect opportunity to persuade the 36-year-old to join either Middlesbrough or Sunderland.
Both Simon Grayson and Garry Monk are former Leeds United managers. But with Garry Monk the only one of the two managers to have Rob Green in their side and with Boro slightly more the favourites to go up, that may persuade Green to choose Boro over their North East rivals in the form of Sunderland if Rob Green does decide he wants to leave the Lilly Whites.
After Sunderland lost Jordan Pickford to Everton for £30m and Middlesbrough lost Victor Valdes after he returned back to his parent club, both sides are in desperate need of a new keeper. Rob Green has bags of experience in both the Premier League and the Championship. In the Premier League, he’s made 267 appearances keeping 55 clean sheets. He’s also made 332 appearances and made a giant 114 clean sheets in the 2nd tier of English football. All this experience in the top two tiers of the English game could make him the perfect candidate for two clubs that are looking for an instant return to the big time!
