Taylor, Leeds defender agrees to make Burnley switch

Leeds defender agrees to make Burnley switch

Charlie Taylor is set to join Burnley and will link up with the club as soon as Wednesday, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The news will come as no surprise to the Leeds faithful after the 23-year-old submitted a transfer request last season and is now out of contract with the Whites. It is reported that the defender has agreed personal terms with Burnley and is set to sign for the Premier League club.

The question on the mind of most Leeds fans will be the fee attached. With Taylor’s age, the Yorkshire club are entitled to a fee but no agreement with Burnley has been made yet. The left-back’s fee is likely to be set by tribunal and reports indicate that Leeds have valued Taylor at around £5 million, which deterred interest from top-flight club West Bromwich Albion last week.

Burnley are understood to have approached Thomas Christiansen’s side for further discussions on the agreed fee over the weekend, and the Clarets are prepared to risk the ambiguity of a tribunal ruling if discussions with the Championship club fail to find an agreement. However, new discussions have created the possibility of a private deal.

The loss of the former England youth international, who made 32 appearances last term, will be tough on United, but it gives new boss Christiansen a transfer spending pot to bring in the players he wants at the club.

The West Yorkshire club kick-off their season in less than five weeks when they visit newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers.
