Earlier today, the72 reported that Aston Villa had confirmed that they had secured the signature of Chelsea legend John Terry.
The former England captain was joins the club on a free following his departure from Chelsea, where he has spent the whole of his professional career, with the exception of a loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the early 2000s.
Aston Villa laboured to a 13th place finish in the Sky Bet Championship last season, but they are among the early favourites to be promoted this coming campaign.
The signing of such a world class defender will now doubt improve their odds. Of course, Terry is no longer the player he used to be, but he has still got what it takes, and will still register amongst the top defenders in the second tier.
Aston Villa fans were quick to take to Twitter following Dr Tony Xia’s confirmation of the transfer.
