Are the good times back at Pompey?

Portsmouth are undoubtedly one of the big boys within the English game, winning 2 FA Cups and a Charity Shield, and having memorable success, and spent a consistent time in the Premier League.

The club is most remembered, in recent times at least, for their spell under current Birmingham City and former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp.

The likes of Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Kevin-Prince-Boateng, Niko Krancjar, David James, Sol Campbell and Sylvain Distin all wore the Blue of Portsmouth during his reign, amongst numerous others, and created a whole host of special moments together, including the unlikely FA Cup win during the 2007/2008 season, and a memorable run in the 2008/2009 UEFA Cup, where they drew 2-2 with the Italian giants AC Milan at Fratton Park.

However, following a tidal wave of financial trouble and despair, the club fell from grace in dramatic style, and eventually found themselves at the bottom of the Football League pyramid in League 2, but the fans ultimately saved the club, as the supporters trust bought the club in 2013, and then sold 10,000 season tickets, a record for any League 2 team.

And following their recent promotion, by winning League 2 last season, the good times could be back at the south coast club.

Pompey have appointed experienced Football League manager Kenny Jackett to steer the Portsmouth ship back in the right direction, and the boys in blue are currently the bookies third favourites to win League 1.

With renewed optimism and positive spirit, and a real chance for an impressive season, we could well see Portsmouth have back-to-back promotions this coming season. However win-lose or draw one thing is for sure, the Fratton Park faithful will be with the club every step of the way.
