Wigan eye move for Preston striker

Following their relegation from the Sky Bet Championship last season, Wigan Athletic are looking to rebuild and bounce back straight away when the new season commences in August.

The Latics are expected to make several signings, and according to the Lancashire Evening Post, are eyeing a move for Preston North End striker Eoin Doyle.

The Irishman made his name and burst onto the EFL scene when he was playing for Chesterfield, where he had 2 very impressive seasons, earning himself a move to the Championship with Cardiff City in 2015.

However, Doyle couldn’t find the form that earned him the move, and struggled to adjust to the step up, and he was subsequently loaned out to Preston North End for a season before moving permanently to Lancashire.

However, once again he has failed to impress during his time at Deepdale, and failed to impress on his loan spell at Portsmouth last season, so it looks like the 29 year-old will be looking for a new home once again, and Wigan Athletic are reportedly interested in securing the strikers signature this summer window.

Doyle could come at a cost however, and reports suggest that this could mean that Wigan may offload promising striker Omar Bogle to fund the deal.

With a wealth of experience and over 90 career goals, it’s no doubt that if Doyle can settle at a club and find his form he could be a real top acquisition, and all at the DW Stadium will be hoping that this is the season for the former Hibs man to materialise the potential he has.
