Championship star can become ‘£50 million player’ according to Nottingham Forest legend

The 24-year-old striker has endeared himself to the Forest faithful after hammering home 30 goals in 65 games over the course of the past three season since joining from League One outfit Peterborough United.

Assombalonga’s performances helped keep Forest up last season, but Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough are now eyeing an 8-figure deal to bring the Democratic Republic of Congo striker over to the Riverside.

Burns, who rates the former Watford striker incredibly highly, said: “Thankfully it has all gone quiet on the Britt Assombalonga front in respect of transfer speculation, for now at least. I hope it stays that way because I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, he has all the attributes to become a £50m player.”

“If Forest are serious about getting out of the Championship then you need to keep hold of your best players at all costs. I appreciate every player has a price, but replacing him would be incredibly difficult.”

Forest have just tied down Ben Brereton to a long term deal, and with Zach Clough ready and fit, Forest could have a sublime attacking force should they keep hold of their star man.

Burns went on to say: I can’t wait to see him next season on the back of a good pre-season and hopefully that will set him up for an injury-free campaign.”

This summer is huge for Assombalonga, who will need to make a decision about his future sooner or later, but only time will tell whether he lives up to Burns’ hype.
