According to odds given by Sky Bet, Manchester United and Wales legend Ryan Giggs is one of the early favourites to become the new manager of Preston North End.
The former United star is currently 8/1 to take the vacant manager’s role at Deepdale, making him third favourite for the job.
Preston North End have been on the search for a new manager since Simon Grayson left the club on Friday to join fellow Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland.
Grayson had helped North End to promotion from the third tier in 2014/15, and since then had worked on consolidating them as a Sky Bet Championship club.
And now, the Lilywhites will be looking to bring in someone capable of taking them to the next level, but is Ryan Giggs the man?
When it comes to managerial experience, the Welshman is severely lacking. He has spent the majority of his non-playing career as a coach, or even assistant manager to David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United. Following Moyes’ departure, Giggs was placed in charge for a couple of games, but that is about it when it comes to experience.
Of course, as a player, he has done it all at club level. He holds the record for most Premier League winners medals, he has won two Champions League trophies, as well as countless other competitions.
As an individual, he could attract a number of big players to the club. Who would not want to play under the management of one the Premier League greats?
But whether or not Giggs would be able to handle the pressure of an actual manager’s job in the second tier remains to be seen, and his lack of experience could seriously count against him.
