Middlesbrough set to miss out on Premier League winger

Middlesbrough could be set to miss out on signing Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Newly-appointed Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk is currently trying to add to his squad ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season starting next month.  Looking to put together a squad capable of promotion back to the Premier League, Monk reportedly registered his interest in signing Liverpool winger Ojo.

Ojo, 20, made only two appearances for the Liverpool first-team last season due to injury, leading to speculation that he could be loaned out this season.

It is understood that Middlesbrough, along with Premier League sides Burnley and Newcastle United registered their interest in signing Ojo this summer, but Liverpool have rejected all bids.  Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants the winger to take part in pre-season with Liverpool and play in their friendly games.  He will then make a decision on whether Ojo will be loaned out this summer.

Ojo began his youth career with MK Dons before making the move to Liverpool in 2011.  He has since made 13 first-team appearances for the club, scoring one goal.  Most of these appearances came in the 2015-16 season, when the winger played in eight Premier League games.

Ojo has also been loaned out twice, to Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers.  In total, he has made 28 Championship appearances, scoring two goals.

The winger impressed for England in the Under-20 World Cup last month which has led to a lot of interest.  If Middlesbrough are to sign Ojo this summer, they will have to fend off interest from the Premier League.
