Bradford City sign Shay McCartan

Bradford City’s official Twitter account has announced the signing of Northern Irish striker Shay McCartan on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Accrington Stanley.

The striker has scored 25 goals in 110 appearances for Accrington Stanley and managed 11 goals in 34 games last season for the League Two side.

McCartan is only 23-years-old and appears to be an ideal signing for the Bantams, being both young and relatively experienced.

McCartan has become Bradford City’s 7th signing of the summer after the arrival of Callum Gunner, Omari Patrick, Tyrell Robinson, Adam Chicksen, Paul Taylor and most recently Dominic Poleon.

The striker joins a strikeforce of Charlie Wyke, Alex Jones, Dominic Poleon and Paul Taylor at Valley Parade that offers promise of a very prolific season in front of goal at Valley Parade.

McCartan began his youth career at Glenavon before moving to Burnley’s academy and signing professional forms with the side.

The young striker only managed to make one appearance for the Clarets and went on a loan spell to Hyde where he featured 16 times, scoring once.

The young striker has progressed through the youth ranks for his national side, appearing once for the senior Northern Irish team in 2017 and on nine occasions for the under-21 side scoring on two occasions.

The striker has signed for an undisclosed fee and now has the opportunity to help the Bantams out of League One this season. The West-Yorkshire side will be aiming for promotion but face tough competition in the face of Blackburn Rovers and McCartan could be a fantastic signing for the Bantams in their promotion push.
