Wolves to beat Celtic in chase for £1million Scottish full back

The Express & Star understands that Sky Bet Championship side Wolves are nearing the £1million signing of Konyaspor left back Barry Douglas. A better weekly wage and guaranteed first-team football means Wolves are set to pip Celtic to the Scottish defender.

Despite the fact that the Scottish treble winners also have the luxury of Champions League football to offer, Douglas is closing in on a move to Molineux. A deal could be completed before the end of the week as Nuno Espirito Santo continues to stamp his own authority onto the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad he inherited from Paul Lambert. Douglas being the next piece of the jigsaw.

The 27-year-old made a name for himself in Scotland with Dundee United, earning him a move to Polish side Lech Poznan, where he won the domestic league title and played in the Europa League with them too. At Turkish side Konyaspor, they won the Turkish Cup last season, earning qualification for the Europa League too.

Yesterday we covered news on the fact that Wolves were hoping to beat Brendan Rodgers in signing the left back, who has enhanced his reputation in recent seasons. The Championship side often used right-footed Matt Doherty as their left back last season. Although he did an excellent job, surely Nuno will wish to offer much more balance to his side by having a naturally left-footer in this role. The fact he is already familiar with the English game, albeit with no experience in England, will surely serve as a big factor in wanting to get him on board for their intended promotion push next season.
