Former Birmingham City and Leeds United ace training with Hibs

Former Birmingham City and Leeds United winger Jermaine Pennant is currently training with Scottish Premiership club Hibernian according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The 34-year-old Nottingham born wideman is a free agent after being released by Sky Bet League One outfit Bury following a short spell with the Lancashire outfit during the second half of this season.

It has been reported that Pennant is training with Hibernian for a second time in a bid to earn a deal at Easter Road with the player having failed to impress Hibs boss Neil Lennon during a previous spell training with the club back in November.

The journeyman has represented no less than 14 different clubs during his long footballing career including current Sky Bet Championship clubs Birmingham City, Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With the winger enduring a frustrating time playing under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, Pennant joined Leeds United on loan for the 2003/2004 campaign but despite making 36 appearances for The Whites and scoring two goals he was unable to help the club avoid relegation from the top flight.

Pennant joined Birmingham City on loan during the following season and his impressive performances for The Blues earned himself a permanent move. The midfielder’s spell at St Andrews was a short one with then Premier League rivals Liverpool swooping to sign Pennant in a reported £6.7 million deal a little over 12 months on.

Pennant returned to the English game in January after a spell in Singapore and the veteran will be hoping to extend his career a little further with Hibernian.
