England and Chelsea legend set to complete Championship move

Chelsea and England legend John Terry is set to complete his move to Championship side Aston Villa on a free transfer this week, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

Terry made 492 appearances for London giants Chelsea over a 19-year spell with The Blues, where he secured his place in Chelsea legend, helping the club to win almost every honour on the European stage, including an incredible Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich on penalties.

The Barking-born centre-half also won 78 caps for England throughout his international career but was unable to deliver any silverware despite being a member of the famed ‘golden generation of the 2006 World Cup.

After finding himself surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte last season for Chelsea, many expected Terry to hang up his boots following the expiration of his contract in a week’s time, however, the 36-year-old is keen to play on, and hasn’t been short of offers.

Despite multiple offers from abroad, Terry is keen to remain in England but reluctant to play against former club Chelsea.

Both Aston Villa and Birmingham City have shown an interest in signing the former England international, but it is reported that Villa are set to win the race to sign Terry, with a 1-year £5 million contract set to be offered come this weekend when his contract is up.

The signing is a huge risk for Steve Bruce, but the experience of Terry in the dressing room will be invaluable, and Harry Redknapp will be disappointed to have missed out on the Chelsea legend.
