Coventry City sign Sutton United FA Cup hero

Coventry City returned for pre-season this morning and celebrated the occasion by announcing their eighth signing of the summer, Maxime Biamou.

The 26 year old striker joins on a 2 year deal from Sutton United for an undisclosed fee, the first money signing Coventry have made since Jordan Turnbull last August. He netted on 14 occasions for the U’s last season, including 3 in that famous FA Cup run where they toppled the likes of Leeds United and AFC Wimbledon. He also got 5 assists throughout the 16/17 campaign.

Before arriving in England at Sutton, Biamou spent his career in the French lower leagues with teams such as Villemomble Sports and AS Yzeure. However it was in the Vanarama National League where he really found his feet which has led to his poaching by Mark Robins.

Robins has described him as “A raw talent with pace, power and aggression, and is also good in the air. We look forward to working with him and developing his ability further”. This displays good signs for a striker who will be adding to the threat of Marc McNulty, Stuart Beavon, Kwame Thomas and still potentially George Thomas should he extend his current deal.

Biamou becomes the eighth addition in what some people are dubbing the ‘Robins Revolution’ and he has hinted he won’t be happy until he sees twelve people come through the door, as well as George Thomas and Ryan Haynes staying on beyond the expiry of their contracts.

Two people Coventry are rumoured to be looking at are both ex-players in Leon Best and Carl Baker, however Best would be another striker which looks increasingly unlikely with the introduction of Biamou. However four spots still remain for signings, even before that the Sky Blues have to be considered one of the favourites to gain promotion.
