Everton considering making a bid for Sheffield United midfielder

According to the Telegraph, Everton could be weighing up making a bid for Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks.

The young midfielder spent ten years of his youth career between 2004-2014 at Manchester City’s Academy. Brooks then moved to Sheffield United’s academy in 2014 before then signing a professional contract with the Blades in 2015.

The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at FC Halifax Town in the National League North and made five appearances for the Shaymen.

Brooks made four appearances for the Blades last season, including his first start for the club against Walsall in the Checkatrade Trophy. Despite Brooks making four appearances last season for the Blades, he is still yet to play a league match for Sheffield United.

Brooks really broke onto the scene this summer during the England under-20 teams success in the Toulon Tournament. The team won the tournament and Brooks was influential in his side’s success, scoring the winning goal in the final. The young midfielder was named the Best Player and also featured as part of the team of the tournament.

Everton have recently brought a number of emerging talents from their youth team into their first team such as Tom Davies who has been exceptional for Everton in the Premier League this season. With the midfielder only being 19-years-old, an offer from a Premier League side could really set his head spinning.

Now Sheffield United are in the Championship, there will be the debate as to whether a move for Brooks would be an appropriate option at this stage in his career, especially with him yet to feature in a league match for the Blades. Whether Everton sign the midfielder or not, it is highly likely that he will be sent out on loan next season to either a League One or League Two side to gain experience.
