Ex- Cambridge midfielder signs for Swindon

James Dunne has signed for The Robins after being released from Cambridge. This makes him Town’s second signing of the summer after Scottish defender Chris Robertson was signed three days before.

Dunne will officially join the club on July 1st. The 27-year-old started his career with Arsenal but he never made a first-team appearance for the club. He has spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest, St Johnstone and Dagenham & Redbridge. The tough-tackling midfielder played forty-two times for Cambridge last season scoring one goal.

Since the transfer has been announced Dunne has said ” I’m delighted to have signed. I spoke to the gaffer (David Flitcroft) last week and I’m glad to have got it over the line.” The midfielder also added ” I’ve played at The County Grond before. I’ve played here when it’s rocking so I’m looking forward to playing here.” When asked about what fans can expect from him Dunne said ” I like tackling and getting on the ball. I can play and get on the ball, but I also like the nastier side of football.”

Dunne has made over 275 appearances in his career with many of them coming in League Two. He is very experienced in the league which will certainly help Swindon after their relegation from League One. Furthermore, he is a player who isn’t afraid to put his foot in. This is what Town fans have been calling out for.

Flitcroft has been in charge for three weeks after the sacking of Luke Williams.http://the72.co.uk/82799/swindon-town-appoint-former-bury-manager-new-boss/ The 43-year-old has insisted that he will take his time with summer business and he won’t rush into anything. Flitcroft said promotion is the aim and he will be looking to guide the club back into League One at the first time of asking.

Despite being released by United, Dunne still played a pivotal role in a Cambridge side which finished 11th. Many U’s fans were outraged that the 27-year-old was released as they saw him as a quality league two midfielder.
